WPA Advocate Spotlight – Julie Herbert

Meet WPA Advocate Julie Herbert

As a young girl, Julie began playing poker with her mom and her mom’s golf friends on rainy days. Mom staked her with a small stack of pennies, nickels and dimes and she fell in love with the game. She played 7-card Stud at the Taj Mahal, Tropicana and then Borgata in Atlantic City gradually moving over to NLHE as the poker boom hit. She has two recent Top 10 finishes, March 2018 she took 2nd at the Aria nightly and November 2017 she took 8th in the Golden State Ladies Poker Championship, among a variety of other local cashes.

A cross country move to California presented the opportunity to play more poker and Ladies events. She is constantly encouraging women to play when LIPS tour comes to town. Julie is currently working on putting together a poker instructional evening for the women of her fishing group, as they have all expressed interest in learning the game.

Julie and her husband have celebrated 35 years of marriage and she has three grown children and one grandson. She works full time as a bookkeeper and plays whenever she can.
